Rural Curiosity Centre
The Estonian Agricultural Museum is being renewed and, starting in 2026, will carry the name MUHK – the Rural Curiosity Center. MUHK brings together a contemporary science center and a historical museum, presenting the past, present, and future of Estonian rural life and agriculture in one place.
Through exhibitions, educational programmes, engaging activities, and lively events, visitors can discover how agriculture really works behind the scenes. As a true Rural Curiosity Center, the museum also features live animals, historical machinery, and farmland. MUHK is a place that offers joy of discovery, curiosity, and hands-on activity for both children and adults. Rather than providing ready-made answers, it encourages visitors to ask new questions and explore fresh perspectives.
MUHK is located in Tartumaa, in the historic Ülenurme Manor Park. In the early 1970s, the buildings of the former Ülenurme manor complex were assigned to the Estonian Agricultural Museum, which has been open to visitors since 1981. More detailed information about the history of the manor can be found here.
Plans to renew the Agricultural Museum began as early as 2022, and the first exhibitions reflecting the Rural Curiosity Center concept opened in 2025 in the barn building. By autumn 2026, the main house will also gain new content and energy, with the opening of a two-floor permanent exhibition titled “You Are Made of Soil.”
