150 Years Since the First Estonian Ploughing Competition

On August 11th, 2024, we marked the 150th anniversary of the very first ploughing competition held in Estonia. This historic event, organized by Carl Robert Jakobson, a leading figure of the Estonian national awakening and an advocate for modern farming practices, took place in 1874 at Kurgja. Jakobson, who was deeply passionate about improving agricultural methods, believed that such competitions were vital for sharing knowledge and improving the skills of Estonian farmers. His vision laid the foundation for the advancement of local farming techniques, and today we honor his contributions through this exhibition.

Hosting the 69th World Ploughing Championship in Estonia

In 2024, Estonia had the privilege of hosting the 69th World Ploughing Championship, an international event that celebrates the art and science of ploughing. Held in Tartu at the Rõhu Garden, this prestigious competition brought together the world's best ploughmen to demonstrate their skill and precision. Nearly 50 participants from countries as far as New Zealand competed in front of a global audience. The event showcased not only the technical expertise of the competitors but also highlighted the importance of sustainable farming practices worldwide​.
