The hike is dedicated to the anniversary of C. R. Jakobson’s death and is jointly organised by the RMK Visitor Management Department (Southern Estonia region) and the Estonian Rural Life Museums Foundation / C. R. Jakobson Farm Museum. This year marks the 144th anniversary of C. R. Jakobson’s passing on 19 March. First organised in 1961, the Sakala Road Hike follows a forest road between Vanaõue and Kurgja — the same route C. R. Jakobson once used when travelling to Viljandi to edit a newspaper. The total length of the hike is 12.2 km. Start of the trail: Viljandi County, Põhja-Sakala Municipality, opposite Vanaõue Holiday Centre, at the beginning of the Sakala Road hiking trail. Rest stops are available at the Maltsaar recreation area and near the Sawmill forest hut. At Maltsaar, tea and biscuits will be offered — participants are kindly asked to bring their own cup or mug if possible. At the Sawmill stop, hikers will be welcomed with a campfire, tea, and snacks. Every participant will receive a medal upon reaching the finish. In Kurgja, hikers are invited to enjoy hot soup and tea at the Rehi Café of the C. R. Jakobson Farm Museum. For participants, entry to the mill, granary, sauna, and barn is free of charge, while the manor house permanent exhibition can be visited at half price. 🎟️🚌 Hike tickets and bus seats can be purchased via Fienta. The number of bus seats is limited and tickets for the bus are available only through Fienta. Hike tickets will also be sold on site, but advance registration is requested so that we can prepare a sufficient amount of soup and medals. Parking is available in the Kurgja parking areas. See the parking map here.
</oembed>
